Bakers Delight will donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold to raise over $8000 towards funding the purchase of a Biliblanket for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
John Hunter Children's Hospital in Newcastle is a 114 bed children's hospital, the only such facility in Australia located outside a capital city.
More than 50,000 families pass through the hospital each year for emergency, inpatient and outpatient care.
The NICU is the busiest in NSW, which has over 1100 admissions each year from across Northern NSW.
Admission age ranges from 23 weeks gestation to term infants, catering for prematurity, medical and surgical illnesses.
John Hunter Children's Hospital director of the NICU Dr Paul Craven, said; "Biliblankets play a vital role in caring for young children with jaundice, a condition impacting many children that can thankfully be avoided with timely treatment for paediatric patients."
Bakers Delight and John Hunter Children's Hospital, together with the support of the local community, will raise funds this Bundraiser Day to aid the care of children like the daughter of Newcastle Knight Jeremy Smith, a former patient.
"We were so grateful for the support shown by John Hunter Children's Hospital, and the care the staff have shown for my family has been fantastic," said Jeremy.
"I hope the people of the region get behind this fundraising initiative to ensure other families continue to receive the support and access to equipment John Hunter Children's Hospital needs."
