He was named following a series of trials that started in Armidale earlier this year.
A member of the Football Mid North Coast Centre of Excellence, Lucas was initially invited to attend trials at Armidale with other representative hopefuls before playing in the Rebel Cup.
A training camp in Queensland was the final stage before the squad of 16 was named for the nationals. He gained a place in the Centre of Excellence last year.
Lucas is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.
He has been named as a centre back and said he was happy with the way he performed in the trials.
He is now looking forward to the challenge of playing at the nationals against the best players in his age group in the country.
Lucas plays for Taree Wildcats under 13s on Saturdays and backs up to turn out for Football Mid North Coast South in the State Youth League on Sunday. Playing two matches in the one weekend doesn’t bother him.
FMNC finished third after the competition proper and will play in the semi-finals at Port Macquarie this weekend while Lucas said the Wildcats are going ‘okay’ in what has been a rain-marred season.
Lucas started playing football about eight years ago with the Wildcats. He is in Year Eight at Taree High School.
