The River Street roadworks between the Martin Bridge and Pulteney Street are progressing well, however they will not be completed in time for Christmas.
Greater Taree City Council has advised that until roadworks are completed, River Street will remain closed in one direction, for traffic going from the Pulteney Street end to the Martin Bridge. The other lane going from the bridge to Pulteney street will remain open at all times.
Council plans to seal the road and complete the works by mid January, weather-permitting, at which time, full two-way access will resume.
Traffic coming down Pulteney street from Victoria Street (towards the river) won't be able to turn onto River Street, and must turn around and go back up to Victoria Street. Trucks more than six metres should not try to enter Pulteney Street as they won't be able to make the U-turn at the end.
The ongoing cooperation of motorists and the public is appreciated. While we understand this may present some inconvenience for some road users, the intention is to seal the road surface and complete the works by mid January, weather-permitting, at which time, full two-way access will resume.
