These are feelings families with loved ones buried at Dawson River Cemetery would know only too well.
A cry for help came through to the Manning River Times this week from a woman who is at the end of her tether.
The woman's mother and brother were both laid to rest at Dawson River however their families have been horrified to find their grave sites and those of many others vandalised and defaced on numerous occasions.
"And it only seems to be happening more often," she said.
Sabrina first contacted the Times earlier in the year when things had been stolen from her mother's grave, also advising that graffiti was starting to occur again.
The latest call comes after she found the photo of her mother at the graveyard had been defaced by texta, along with many others at the site.
Sabrina and her family have contacted Greater Taree City Council as well as the police and are urging anyone else who has had a loved one's grave targeted to do the same.
"I don't know what the answer is but I know something needs to be done," Sabrina said.
"We pay so much money to have our loved ones buried there and we put love and effort into maintaining it for them, only to have disrespectful people come in and ruin it."
