Manning River Dragon Boat Club recently laid claim to caring for five planter boxes at the end of Manning Street in Taree to demonstrate their support for Tidy Up Taree.
A crowd gathered to watch and help with the transformation of the boxes by club members using fresh soil and 15 plants.
Club president Trish Paff said members were inspired by the enthusiasm of Tidy Up Taree organiser, Graham Brown.
"We often see these planter boxes full of rubbish rather than plants.
"Given we train five times a week we thought we could adopt these planter boxes and not only fill them with flowering plants, but also water them after training," Trish explained.
"(Greater Taree City) Council were very supportive of our project and assisted with providing the plants and Ausmulch came to the rescue providing some much needed soil and mulch to give the plants a great start. We appreciated how both Ausmulch and council jumped at the chance to assist.
"We are so lucky to have such a lovely river to paddle on and we take any opportunity to improve our riverbank park.
"We are very happy with the outcome and would like to put the challenge out to other clubs and businesses to lend a helping hand to the Tidy Up Taree initiative.
"It's amazing how much we can achieve when we all lend a helping hand."
Tidy Up Taree organiser, Graham Brown said it was "great to see clubs such as the Manning River Dragon Boating Club take up the challenge and clean up this end of Manning Street".
"Tidy Up Taree started with a suggestion that we can all take responsibility to improve a little bit of Taree. It has snowballed, with many local businesses cleaning up their properties. This project is a great example of how we can all make a difference in our town," he explained.
Tidy Up Taree will be on Saturday, November 30 and the focus of the event will be for the community, businesses and clubs to help clean up Victoria Street. The street will be closed in the afternoon.
People can register their intent to help on November 30 on the Tidy Up Taree website www.tidyuptaree. com.au
