For two years members have been working steadily, cleaning up and restoring the creek and its environs.
The mayor and Mr Jose were most impressed with what has been achieved and appreciated a running commentary as to different aspects of the creek's habitat, landscape and history.
From the varied bird life around the Bicentennial gardens to the wild geese, wild ducks, water dragons and the evidence of fish, there was plenty for them to see.
Pattie Hogan, having never been up the creek by boat before, said "You see a different aspect of our city from the water."
"She said she couldn't believe we were so close to the centre of town as we cruised up behind the Taree Showground, Friends of Browns Creek spokesman Bill Dennis said.
"This visit is very timely as Friends of Browns Creek are planning an 'open day' on Saturday, November 2 when members of the public are invited to come and check out this natural attraction in the heart of our city".
Tours leave from Drury Lane off Stevenson Street (behind Office Works) between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
Canoe and kayak owners are also invited to come and share in the experience.
