OLD Bar Beach Garden Club proved they're more than just green thumbs last week when they got together for a special fundraising luncheon at Club Old Bar.
The fun, social event was to raise much needed funds for Manning Hospital's oncology department, to purchase special recliners for chemotherapy patients.
Patrons were all given tickets in the monstrous lucky door prize, while informative guest speakers addressed the crowd and musical entertainment was provided.
More than 100 people attended the luncheon, helping to raise over $2000 that will enable two new chairs to be donated.
"It all went really well, we're so happy with the result and can't thank everyone enough for coming along and supporting such a worthy cause," said Helen Cadden, garden club president.
Inspiration for the event came when Helen was visiting a friend who was receiving chemotherapy in Taree and she decided to get to work to try and assist the service that helps so many others.
"It takes a lot to organise something like this," explained Helen who intends to repeat the event every two years.
Maureen Hogan, supervisor of the oncology unit, has called Helen to thank her for her efforts in coordinating the day.
"It was just a wonderful day, it had a great atmosphere and we raised more than I ever thought we would," beamed Helen.
