RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) is a voluntary organisation commenced by Rotary under the guidance of past president Ken Patterson in 2005.
RYDA was formed to help educate young people about road safety in order to reduce the road toll amongst P-plate drivers.
A number of different road safety volunteers talk to year 11 high school students about the dangers of driving, and demonstrate the need for care when driving in a car donated by a local car dealer.
The program was commenced in Taree and is now being implemented throughout Rotary District 9650.
The next RYDA training days will be held at Taree racecourse next Tuesday and Thursday, May 8 and 10, involving students from Great Lakes College, Taree High School, Taree Christian College, Bulahdelah Central and Manning Valley Anglican College.
