Community demand for the tins has increased since the club kick-started its campaign on February 1 with about 53 distributed throughout the community, according to events co-ordinator, Allen Lenton.
The campaign concept is simple. The Lions Club of Taree wants “all your five cent coins, for five months, to raise five grand” and all the money will go to prostate cancer research. The fundraising drive will end on June 30.
Mr Lenton said the Manning Valley community is generous and cites an early running tally of $1687 as evidence.
“We are on target for the $5000 goal and with 53 tins in the community, we think we may get there,” Mr Lenton said.
“One lady kindly requested we give her a tin to place at the birthday party of her 60-year-old son. That tin came to us with $255 in it.”
The tins can be found at the following Taree locations. In Manning Mall visit Guardian Pharmacy, Lowes Menswear, Baker-Payne-Webb, Eddies Chickens and Bruce Lang Butchers.
In Taree City Centre it’s More Than Gifts, Michels Coffee, Noni B, Woolworths Staff Room, Eddies Chickens and Bakers Delight.

In Manning Street, tins are situated in the NRMA, Lambert Meats, Di-Novo Coffee Shop, Dans Ladies Wear, Manning Shoe Store, Manning River Times, Tobacco Station, Bridges Sportswear, Barbers Chair, Retravision and Taree Eyewear, Mr Lenton said. Three businesses can be found in Pulteney Street, they are the Car Park Deli, Holiday Coast Office Solutions and Lyn Pullen Travel. Participating Victoria Street businesses are Yarads Menswear, Manning River Pharmacy and Raw Sugar Cafe.
