TAREE Greyhounds held a 12 event card on Saturday afternoon in glorious weather conditions, a good crowd was on hand to witness some exciting racing.
Local trainers were quite successful. The feature for the afternoon was the running of the Rocket Tools Silver Bullet Final for non-grade over 392m, the field was bunched going through the catching pen and Natural Disaster, owned and trained by Shaun Guthrie from Port Macquarie (a young enthusiastic newcomer to the training ranks, well supported by his family), jumping from the two box was able to miss most of the interference and went on to win by five lengths in 22.65.
Bide and Grandeur Bella filled the minor places.
The day started with the Townhead Fruit and Veg Maiden over 392m and here we saw Dawnie's Girl owned and trained by Dawn Lynch from Barraganyatti clear the pack soon after the start and go on to salute the judge in 23.08, five lengths ahead of Wizpers Gun with Coco Cash third.
The Old Bar Tavern Stakes for 5th grade over 314m followed and in this Supreme Stimo trained locally by Mick McGuire held on to defeat King Cowboy by a half-head in 18.11. Brandex was third.
Race three was the TGRC Debutante Maiden for first starters/performance trial only over 314m, a field of 6 faced the starter with Sparkplug Zoom, owned and trained by long-time trainer Keith Schmitzer from Taree was first past the post in 19.01, 2 lengths ahead of Turbo Toby with Apache Gift third.
The Presidents Plate a 4/5 grade over 537m (a regular Monthly feature) saw El Halo(trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac) jump well from the inside alley and hold her ground to go on to win by 3 lengths in 31.03. Bitta Gossip and Regal Hero filled the minor places.
The Fletcher and Fletcher Jewellery Stakes (a new sponsor for the Taree track) for 4/5th grade over 392m saw Cundle Jack, owned and trained by Ron Wright from Cundletown, salute the judge in 22.42, two lengths ahead of Bella's Chant with Smart Perfect third. The Bushland Tavern Stakes for fifth grade over 314m saw the Kempsey contingent come to the fore with Mr Buccaneer for Vicki Byrnes defeating Vardy Valley for Albert Zarb by one length in 18.27. Detective Rocco trained by Julie McGowan also from Kempsey was third.
The Local Bookmaker's Stake, a 4-5 grade over 314m saw kennel mates, Wallamba Mickey and Wallamba Chief trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac quinella the finish, with Mickey finishing 3 lengths to the better in 18.27. Detective Dozer was third. Race nine on the card was the Rob Brandolini Media Services Stake for 5th grade over 392m and here we saw Bored To Size trained by Terrance Hong from Kearsley score by 1 length in 22.70 ahead of Big Alert with Guantanamo Adam in third place.
The Brian Dwyer (Donding along) trained Mickelson Valley was the winner of the Supporter's Club Stake for 5th grade over 314m, scoring by 2 lengths in 18.20. Jazerati and Tallowwood Storm filled the minor places. The Local GBOTA Stakes followed for 5th grade over 392m and here we saw Mummy Cool trained by Jeanette Roche from Kew salute the judge in 23.17, a length ahead of Mark Times Two with Mr Shinto in third spot.
The final event for the afternoon was the Harrington Hotel Stakes for 5th grade over 314m and in this Blackies Best, owned and trained by Len Absalom from Firefly, was successful in 18.26, 2 lengths ahead of Callah Reach with Lizzy's Jess filling third place.
