MANNING Point's Troy and Cathy Van Kampen spend countless hours ferrying their two talented children to different sporting events and Cathy admits to rarely taking time to do things for themselves.
Not that she's complaining, but recently the two were treated to an all expenses paid trip to Sydney thanks to the Manning River Times and the Top Tippa competition run on our website.
Troy decided to join the footy tipping competition at the start of the NRL season and continued submitting his tips for each round before coming out the clear winner by 20 points, for the Manning division.
The competition was run in conjunction with 16 other regional papers from around the State, with winners from each site attending the Sydney function last weekend.
Each finalist was treated to a 'grand final experience', with accomodation at the Sheraton on the Park in Sydney and a grand final function at the Sky Venue, Centrepoint Tower.
During the course of the night each site winner was given $1 000 to place on different bets for the game, including things like first try scorer and other multi-bets.
The overall winner - the person who made the most money from their $1000 - was then announced as the overall Top Tippa and given the opportunity to select from one of 25 envelopes, with 24 containing $5000 and one containing $1,000,000.
Amazingly, Troy was the clear Top Tippa, winning back $1900 from his grand final bets and subsequently selecting a $5000 envelope to take home.
Cathy said it was a fantastic night and a great experience, with the pair enjoying taking time out for themselves.
"And to come back with $5000 is just huge for us," she beamed.
"Troy will definitely be taking part again next year."
