Doors open at 6pm on both nights and that's when the fun begins, according to Paula Skinner. Currently around 30 young people flow into the centre to enjoy a meal, and various structured activities such as gymnastics, movie nights, art and craft and team sports.
"It's a great night, it's a safe environment and importantly, it lets young people be young people," Paula said.
Paula heads up the Safe Aboriginal Youth (SAY) Program and has a huge team behind her to organise, co-ordinate and supervise the kids who come to the centre. The team includes Katrina Corbet, Maria Mitchell, Clint Mitchell, Carol Campbell, JJ Burton, Jen Wiemes, Jason Murphy, Anthony Morris and Katrina Staff.
Paula said the doors of the PCYC on Friday and Saturday nights were open to young people, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, aged between 10 years and 18 years.
Another aspect of the program is the provision of free transportation.
"It's really important that all our kids get to the venue safely or home safely. If they are out and about on a Friday or Saturday and want a lift to the PCYC then all they have to do is ring us on 0400 357 178. It's that simple," she added.
