TAREE Greyhounds raced in perfect weather conditions with their self-funded additional meeting for maidens and 5th graders only.
Although they were racing for reduced prizemoney, trainers were most supportive with many taking the opportunity to start their unraced maidens showing the continuing need for country racing.
Local trainers again fared well with one finishing the day with a double.
There were seven heats of the Supporter's Club Maiden over 314m contested. The first was taken out by Will She Knock trained by Denis Wright from Singleton by five lengths in 18.59. Mamzelle Penny and Princess Kasy filled the minor places.
In heat two Ken Fuller from Tinonee was successful with Gamazon which saluted the judge in 18.45, 5 lengths ahead of Mister Ellyroo with Go Lala Go third.
The next heat saw Brodie Knock, trained by Denis Wright (giving him a double) first past the post in 18.60, 3 lengths over Little Miss Elly with Miss Jazam a further 5 lengths back in third place.
Heat four saw the Albert Zarb trained (Kempsey) Vardy Valley salute the judge in 18.65, a half length ahead of Frankie Lee with Cundle Surviver in third spot.
The following heat saw Cundle Kid, owned and trained by Mick McGuire, hit the front at box rise and go on to win by nine lengths in 18.17. Mulwee Rum and Velocette Lady filled the minor places.
Heat six was a rough and tumble affair. Rema's Secret for the Wall/Watson/Croker combination from Lansdowne was able to get to the lead and go on to win in 19.32, 1 lengths over I'm Artistic with Phat Cruisier third. In the final heat Statley Stimo gave Mick McGuire his second for the day winning by 7 lengths in 18.32. Weekend At Vegas and Son Of Us filled the minor places.
The Harrington Hotel Stakes was the first of the 5th grade over 392m and in this Monolith, trained at Dyers Crossing by David Ward, saluted the judge in 22.64, 9 lengths ahead of Guantanamo Adam with Scampi Knocks third. The Local Bookmaker's Stake saw Splash It On owned and trained by David Werner from Beresfield first past the post in 23.35, a half length over Wax It with Distant Knock third.
Race 10 was the Echo Point Stud Stakes and here Visual Basic trained by Len Absalom from Firefly was too strong at the finish defeating Blue Gelato by three quarters of a length in 22.81. Supreme Stimo was third. The Local GBOTA Stakes followed and in this Miss Minto trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac worked her way to the front and went on to win by 3 lengths in 23.00. Mickelson Valley and Foxy Ellie filled the minor places.
A small field of five due to scratchings faced the starter in the final event and in a closely contested race Spent The Kitty trained by Andrew Groizard from Mt Vincent was able to get his head in front when it counted, winning by a head in 22.97 ahead of Bored To Size with Miff in third place.
Taree races again on the public holiday Monday of the October long weekend with the final of the maiden to be run along with the Supporter's Club Novice 0-1 over 537m and the Rocket Tools Silver Bullet, over 392m.
