FREE workshops aimed at empowering men to take a proactive approach to their health are being held in Taree and Gloucester next week.
Men's health expert Dr Stephen Carroll will address the workshops which will cover cardiovascular health, testicular cancer, diabetes, prostate disease, mental health, sexual dysfunction and diet and exercise.
HNE Health Local Rural Adversity Mental Health consultant Kylie Atkinson said Mr Carroll is an internationally recognised speaker.
"Stephen's work has helped recognise that a man's health affects not only him but also his partner, friends and family."
"Stephen speaks with humour and enthusiasm and with over 30 years of experience is sure to provide an entertaining, informative and memorable workshop."
The workshops are a joint initiative of the Hunter New England Local Health District's Rural Adversity Mental Health Program and the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
Ms Atkinson says it's time men's health is discussed openly and honestly.
"For a number of reasons men in particular have had trouble accessing timely and relevant healthcare and in the future this needs to be addressed," Ms Atkinson said.
The workshops have been held in the New England area during the past couple of weeks.
"The workshops are fun and relaxed and the feedback from events held in other parts of the district this year was very positive," Ms Atkinson said.
The workshops will be held on Monday September 9 at Taree's Family Relationships Centre from 10am and at Gloucester Rural Supplies at 6pm.
