Dwayne Kelly and Mitchell Shepherd were the only UGL employees to front on August 27 to make the trip to protest the closure of the facility in Lansdowne.
The PUP protest was set to bring the party's big players, federal leader Clive Palmer and senate team leader, Matt Adamson to the front of Channel 7's Sydney studio and Troy was tipped to bring the numbers, three buses and about 200 people from the Manning Valley, after all, 133 people will be out of work come October when the plant closes.
Two people instead of the 200 people expected turned up and thankfully, common sense prevailed.
Rock, paper, scissors was not used by bus drivers to determine who hit the road to Sydney with three passengers. No buses made the journey. In fact, Dwayne and Mitchell didn't make the journey, according to Troy.
Troy said social media saved the Sydney media event, with a call-out on Facebook bringing about 50 Sydney locals and interested passers-by added more numbers to the gathering.
"We may not have had local people, but we did raise the local issues affecting UGL employees."
