Police from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command have charged a man over the alleged aggravated sexual assault of a woman at Taree and the possession of child abuse material.
During June 2013 police were provided with information about inappropriate material on a computer at a local college.
Police arrested and charged a 44-year-old man on July 1 this year.
They seized hard drives, flash drives and other computer equipment that was forensically examined. Numerous images and video files were allegedly located on the computer prompting further action.
Investigators also became aware of an alleged aggravated sexual assault involving a 20-year-old woman who was under his care at the time of the offences.
About 8.45am on Tuesday, a 44-year-old man was arrested at a residence in Taree.
He was taken to Taree Police Station and later charged with the aggravated sexual assault of victim with cognitive impairment, two counts of aggravated indecent assault of victim with cognitive impairment and possess child abuse material.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Taree Local Court on September 3.
