FIVE parties will contest the seat of Lyne in the September 7 federal election.
The Nationals candidate, Dr David Gillespie is favoured to take the seat, although in a statement released this week, he said he was taking nothing for granted. The Nationals held the seat for more than 40 years until it was won by Independent Rob Oakeshott following the resignation of former deputy prime minister, Mark Vaile not long after the 2007 election won by Labor. Mr Oakeshott is not standing for re-election.
Peter Alley will be Country Labor's candidate with Troy Wilkie standing for the newly formed Palmer United Party.
Ian Oxenford will represent The Greens and John Klose the Christian Democrats.
Stewart Scott-Irving, who lists his address at Wallabi Point/Old Bar and Bangalow/Byron Bay, has indicated he will be standing as an independent.
