North Coast TAFE, which already has 17 campuses, will develop the allied health e-learning hubs with $13 million from the Regional Priorities Round of the federal government's Education Investment Fund.
The investment will benefit students across the region's 700km footprint.
New training hubs will be established in Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Kingscliff and Lismore and will be equipped with live-streaming technology, cameras and multi-panel display screens.
Independent Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott, who negotiated the $500 million funding round in 2010, said the hubs would provide highly practical simulated settings, connecting students through interactive live-streaming of classes, demonstrations and assessments.
"The network uses modern teaching technology to give students access to training opportunities currently only available to those able to travel," Mr Oakeshott said.
"These facilities will provide new opportunities for training in allied health vocations currently not catered for in the area, including allied health assistance, dental assistance and pathology assistance.
"For students it will increase their training options choices and it will also help address the region's current and projected skills needs."
The Allied Health Connected Learning project will generate more than 110 jobs during the construction phase and a further 25 teaching and learning positions upon completion.
The institute director of North Coast TAFE, Ms Elizabeth McGregor, said that North Coast TAFE made the submission for funding because there were clear opportunities in the region in employment in health care and that there would be high demand for future workers skilled in a range of allied health requirements.
"Our idea for five Allied Health Connected hubs brings technology, strategic partners and our passionate North Coast TAFE staff together in one contemporary, scalable and job-focussed solution accessible to learners and workplaces," added Ms McGregor.
Ms McGregor said that this will support connected delivery across our region with hubs going into the communities of Port Macquarie, Taree, Coffs Harbour, Lismore and Kingscliff.
"Planning and design work for the hubs will commence straight away," said Ms McGregor.
"The hubs will be equipped with simulation and audio visual equipment, and will be connected to each other so that learners in one hub - or perhaps their own home or workplace - can participate via technology in a class being conducted in another hub," said Ms McGregor.
"We expect that the hubs will deliver training for a variety of jobs that are likely to be in demand - not only dental and pathology assistants, but also other allied health assistance roles in areas like podiatry, physical therapy, dietetics, sterilisation and so on," said Ms McGregor.
