School holiday travellers will be among the first to experience the completed Bulahdelah Bypass when it opens next Thursday, but the local community will get a sneak preview tomorrow, according to member for Lyne Rob Oakeshott.
The 8.6 kilometre Pacific Highway bypass cost $315 million $303.6 million from the federal government and $11.4 million from NSW. It is part of the Pacific Highway upgrade funded by $7.9 billion from the federal government and $2.5 billion from NSW.
When the bypass opens next week, it will take about 3000 trucks a day out of Bulahdelah's CBD.
"The community day is a great way for everyone to get together to celebrate the end of a major construction project which will deliver new opportunities to Bulahdelah and a safer, more efficient transport network for motorists," Mr Oakeshott said.
"Community days for other towns bypassed by the upgraded Pacific Highway have been great community events and an opportunity for locals to get together to celebrate a milestone.
"From next week, Bulahdelah will no longer be a construction site, and that's worth celebrating."
The community day gets underway at Alum Mountain Park at 10am with free entertain ment, bus rides along the new stretch of highway, children's games and a sausage sizzle.
