Tyler was discovered in swamp land “freezing” “wet” and “unresponsive” by a family who drove voluntarily from Forster to Johns River after police called off the search on Friday afternoon.
“I’d been following it all on facebook news feeds and come nightfall we heard the search had been called off and I was devastated and so was my son,” Kay Corbett said.
“I made a passing suggestion to my sister and my son we should go search and then he nagged me for an hour to go.”
Kay, her sister, brother-in-law and son arrived at John's River at around 10.30pm and began searching.
“We searched in thick bush area, and at around 12.30 my sister said she could hear something. We didn't take much notice of her but she insisted and started pulling over cars.”
The Forster four searched the area and at around 1am Kay heard a faint cry.
“I yelled out ‘he is in here’ and I went down on hands and knees and started crawling in, but my son barged into the thick bush breaking down branches and jumping into the swamp. I called out ‘have you got him yet?’ and he said ‘yes we have him’. I got up and yelled out to the people on the roadside and they started honking their horns and cheering.”
Police were called and removed Tyler from the scene. Kay and her family have since spoken to Tyler’s mother Amanda Kennedy who expressed her extreme gratitude .
