Originally conceived in 2011, The Valley Coffee Spot is a joint project of Valley Industries and Greater Taree City Council.
"We are extremely proud to have the premier here to officially open the new cafe," mayor Paul Hogan said. "This landmark project has been a real success story from the start, and a very good example of how council and community organisations can work together for the public benefit."
The Valley Coffee Spot provides employees and clients of Valley Industries the opportunity to learn valuable skills in food and beverage preparation and service in the caf .
"Valley Industries was pleased to be able to partner with council for this training initiative," Valley Industries CEO, Trent Jennison said.
"The caf is an innovative pathway to employment in the hospitality industry for people with a disability.
"We were pleased to receive a $15,000 grant from the NSW State Government to help bring this project to fruition," he said.
With its focus on "fresh, green and local", The Valley Coffee Spot continues to grow in popularity and already attracts huge morning and lunchtime crowds. The caf also caters for library events and other business functions.
"The caf is a unique initiative yielding great social outcomes," council's senior leader cultural services," Margie Wallis said.
"The caf fits well with the library as a welcoming public space where people can meet, relax, browse or use the free wi-fi."
The premier will be unveiling a plaque commemorating the official opening, and meeting the first group of trainees at The Valley Coffee Spot, who will be serving coffee and cake to the guests.
The Valley Coffee Spot is open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 4.30pm and Friday 10am to 2.30pm.
