Man accused of killing mother's cat

A MAN will front Taree Local Court next month accused of torturing and killing his mother's cat last week

.Police allege the 51-year-old man  was with his mother at an Illingara Circuit home last Wednesday when the incident occurred.

They said the man's 75-year-old mother asked her to son to assist her in giving her cat a flea treatment.  The cat jumped from his mother's armed and ran into a bedroom when the treatment was being administered.

The man allegedly followed the cat into the bedroom and closed the door, before he allegedly tortured it and then killed it, police said.

Authorities were contacted and the man was charged by officers from the Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command.

He will face charges of torture, beat and cause prolonged suffering to an animal.

He was given conditional bail and will appear in Taree Local Court on February 12.
