Off to the Bulldogs

04 Dec, 2009 09:28 AM
Wingham footballer Jacob Lonsdale will link with NRL club Canterbury Bulldogs in three years time.

Jacob, 15, has signed a three year agreement with the club and will move to Sydney after completing year 12 at St Clare’s High School.

“Hopefully I’ll be down there after two years,’’ he said.

Three clubs - the Bulldogs, St George-Illawarra and Newcastle Knights - were keen to gain his services. However, Jacob chose the Bulldogs because they wanted a three-year deal.

“They seemed to show more commitment and the fact that I can finish my schooling here is another plus,’’ he said.

Under the agreement he will attend regular training camps in Sydney, starting next January. He’s also invited to attend all club functions. However, he will be clear to play in Group Three. Currently he turns out with Wingham’s under 15s side.

He has been a regular in Group Three junior representative sides since under 13s.

But Jacob said first and foremost he wants to add some bulk to his frame.

“I’m 75kgs now. I’d like to be 80kgs when I move to Sydney,’’ he explained.
