A DOUBLE header with matches against Wauchope tomorrow and Camden Haven on Sunday will wind up Taree's Oxley-Manning Premier League soccer commitments for 2005, at least in first grade.
The Wildcats have the bye next weekend and won't be around for the first grade semi-finals. However, Taree's reserve grade is well placed to secure a top four spot.
First grade coach Greg Campbell believes the corresponding match against Wauchope last round was the start of the end for his side. The Wildcats went down to the Axemen at Wauchope in a game they were expected to win. They recovered to draw with Port Panthers in a deferred fixture the following day, but even so, it has been a downward slide since.
"We were certainly up and down after that,'' Campbell said.
He won't name his side until tomorrow morning. Troy Modderno, Josh Ferris and Daniel Ramage are all in doubt while Trent Thompson is out because of university commitments. Goal keeper Luke Bramble will be available in a rare snippet of good news.
Campbell will monitor the reserve graders he calls into the first grade squad as they will have an ultra-important clash the following day.
"We have to play again on Sunday against Camden Haven and that's going to stretch our resources,'' he admitted.
Camden Haven leads the reserve grade going into tomorrow's fixtures with Taree in fourth place on percentages, but on 25 points with Port Panthers and Great Lakes United.
All are three clear of Port United and positive results on both days should seal the Wildcats a playoff berth.
The optimistic Campbell remains confident of a strong showing in first grade on both days.
"When we have a good day we're capable of matching it with anyone,'' he reasoned.
"And we're about due for a good day.''
