IT was a wonderful day of shooting at Wingham Rifle Club's 500 yards range with two records broken and a new generation of the Moon family, 12-year-old Declan, son of champion shooters Wendy and Tony, making his debut.
He achieved good scores in his first competition shoot and that bodes well for the future, and the club could have another junior champion in the making.
The shoot was interrupted with a torrential downpour, but that did not impact on the excellent scores.
Steve Southwell smashed previous records with a perfect first round of 50.10 finishing with a total of 100.17 and that broke another record.
Keith Gleeson had a superb first round of 50.7, a record and total of 97.9 and that set a new club record.
A-grade was won by Southwell with 100.17,
Wendy Moon followed with a super second round of 50.7, total score of 99.12 with Tony Moon third on 97.5.
Max Purnell 97.5 won a closely contested B-grade with 97.5. Brian Mavin had a stunning second round of 50.7 with a total of 96.13 and Barry White on 96.5.
C-grade was won by Gleeson with the record breaking score of 97.9, Chris Barnard followed on 88.5, Nick Kenny on 85.3 and new junior Declan Moon on 82.3.
F Open was taken out by Wilf Wright with a super second round of 60.5 finishing on 119.8.
F Class was once again taken out by Mike Rogerson who shot 112.3, followed by Bev Rogerson just one point behind on 111.3. Robert Taylor, who has been away with work commitments scored a solid 110.5 while Jim Blackmore finished on 107.1.
The handicap trophy was won by Keith Gleeson.
