ORGANISERS expect around 13 amateur bouts to be on the bill for the annual Manning River Rumble boxing promotion to be held at Taree PCYC tomorrow evening.
“We’re pretty happy with that,’’ PCYC boxing coach Nerida Potter said.
“We usually plan for around 20, but then boxers pull out without warning, so we’re confident we’re going to get 13.’’
The Taree club will supply up to eight boxers who will hope to be matched. Steve Barnard and Bobby Potter both have ring experience and are expected to be the best of the local hopefuls.
Other boxers will come from Port Macquarie, Forster, the Central Coast and Sydney.
“The response has been good,’’ Potter said.
Gates open at 6.30 with the first bout underway from around 7pm.
Potter said ticket sales have been encouraging. She was given the job of organising the annual event almost at the last moment following a staff resignation.
“Things were pretty hectic for a while but it’s all starting to come together now,’’ she said.
