AFTER taking up the game two years ago ‘because it looked like fun’ Hallidays Point Public School’s Ashlee Germyn has been named in the NSW team to play in the Australian Schools Touch Football Championships.
These will be held in Tasmania in October.
Ashlee, a year six student at Hallidays Point, was a member of the Hunter team that finished co-premiers in the State titles held at Tuncurry.
She is also the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.
Ashlee played wing for the Hunter team and admits she was surprised by her selection in the State squad. The side will gather for a training camp before heading to Tasmania and Ashlee expects to find out then what position she’ll be playing in the championships.
Ashlee plays in the Forster junior touch competition on Tuesday nights, usually as a middle.
“I was watching some kids playing and it looked like fun so I started from there,’’ Ashlee explained of her introduction to the sport.
