GROUP Three Rugby League's ARL development officer Kylie Hilder is confident the Sydney Roosters will return to the area next year.
Hilder was speaking after a successful two and a half day visit by four Roosters stars, Anthony Cherrington, Daniel Mortimer, Issac Lui and Adam Henry who were here as part of the NRL's One Community program.
They visited schools at Taree, Wingham, Old Bar and Tinonee while they also attended come and try days promoted by the Wingham and Old Bar junior league clubs.
"It was all positive,'' Hilder said.
"The players interacted really well with the kids and they were well received by the schools.''
They addressed students on the benefits of reading along with maintaining a proper diet, which the NRL is pushing in the One Community visits.
Speaking to a hall full of kids can be daunting, however Hilder said all handled the responsibilities with aplomb.
Two officials from the Roosters accompanied the players and Hilder said they were impressed by the way the community and the schools welcomed the footballers.
Because of that she believes they will be back next year.
"And I'm hoping they'll be able to bring more players so then we can visit more schools,'' she said.
She said the Old Bar club signed 18 new juniors.
"I'd say there were 70 kids at Old Bar on Monday and even though the weather at Wingham was terrible, there would have been over 100 there. The response on both days was excellent.''
Hilder added that if the city media was hoping for juicy pre-season scandal then they would be disappointed.
"The four of them were all great ambassadors for their club and the NRL,'' she said.
