Planning a tribute

06 Nov, 2009 12:00 AM
TAREE-Wingham Race Club's committee will meet soon to consider an appropriate way to commemorate Corey Brown's brilliant win in the Melbourne Cup.

Race club chairman Don Hopkins said Brown's availability will determine when this can take place. However, he admits he'd rather something be organised soon.

Brown was among the guests at last year's Wingham Cup meeting when the club staged a reunion of former local racing identities. Wingham is Brown's home town. Ideally, Mr Hopkins said, the club would like to plan some time of event in conjunction with this year's Wingham Cup on Sunday November 22, but again, this would depend on whether Brown can make it.

"We'd like to do something that would involve the community and perhaps also involve a charity,'' he said.

He said his committee hasn't discussed the matter year, but it will be raised at the next meeting.

Mr Hopkins described the club's Melbourne Cup meeting as 'a great success.'

"But when you do these things you're always looking to improve,'' he added.

"There are a couple of areas we'll be wanting to improve on next year.''
