Light conditions plague opening heat

19 Nov, 2008 01:00 AM
TAREE Aquatic Club sailors headed to Manning Point for the annual regatta.

With the NS14s sailing from a separate start the rest of the local fleet sailed heat one in light conditions with the spinnaker boats finding it difficult to get their kites to draw in the light breeze. Stowe Australia (Team Folkes) and Predator (Len Mancell and Chris Corcoran) made the best of the light conditions, adding more interest to the eventual outcome.

Handicapper Terry Launders had to meld the local NS14 results with the rest of the fleet results to gain overall results. First on adjusted time was Dark Side of The Moon (Robert Fish and Cassie Cause) then Stowe Australia, Third Bear All (Adam Cause and Jeremy Dodds, Fourth CNC (Stuart and Ben Ferguson and Fifth Predator.

Heat two on Sunday morning saw the building breeze give the spinnaker boats a better angle to enjoy the down wind runs. Bear Route (Dave Hardaker and Jai Smith) finally had their new boat sailing well and enjoyed a good race. Liten Up (Chris and Alex Jones) were enjoying another good race. However Raptor (Robert and Hayden Baker and Adam Birkefeld) and Predator again led the way in the mixed fleet. With the handicapper's adjusted times first was Dark Side of the Moon from Bear All then Raptor, That's Gold (Richard and Rebekah Dodds) and CNC.

Heat Three saw the mixed fleet reveling in the fresh conditions with some great spinnaker rides thrilling the spectators at Harrington Waters. Radical Phase (Tony and Eamon Smith) enjoyed some great rides and its great to see Tony back sailing after a recovering from a knee injury. Red Eye Special (Nick Wright) is now being sailed as an MG14. Nick is slowly mastering the spinnaker system.

Combined fastest time saw Predator first from Raptor, Dark Side of the Moon and Bear All.
