Junior takes out mug

09 Feb, 2010 12:00 AM
JUNIOR golfer Jake Graham shot a hot 63 net to win the Classic Jewellers monthly mug at Taree.

Jake won B-grade from Rob Moore (64). A-grade winner was Steve Hollick (64) with Ian Pomplun second (66).

Connor Leslie (64) and Roy Scheepers (68) featured in C-grade. NTPs were won by P Simpson, J Mawby, S Kim, S O'Donoughue, R Higgins, F Lawrence, J Collier and L Edwards. Lance Coffee won the lucky draw prize and the ball competition went to 72 on a count back. The field comprised 108 players and the CCR was 69. Thanks to Rose Brinkman who, with her usual expertise, managed the half-way house.

Dixon-Gibson Summer Cup concludes

Winners of the Summer Cup were provided with an extravagant display of cammaraderie as well as receiving their trophies on Saturday night. Mark Farrow, Geoff Procter and Cory Scott were on hand to receive their prizes and just about all of the golfers witnessing the presentation received a superb Srixon golf ball from the sponsors as a gesture to encourage attendance at presentation. It was clear the Summer Cup was a huge success.

Tuesday and Thursday

Ross Alley (39) was best on Tuesday with Graham Gibson (38) second. Phil Daniels (38) John Saad and Josh Mawby (36) won balls. Neville Burke surprised himself with an efficient 42 points nudging out the in-form Josh Mawby on a countback. Bob Worth and Ross Amos (41) were the other winners. The fourball was won by Ross Alley and Peter Barker (47). The ball competition went to 39 on a countback.

Pennants

At the time of going to press I can report that division two, despite an impressive "handing out of shirts" ceremony with vice president, Michael Byrne as guest speaker inaugurating a strong bonding program, lost to Port Macquarie at Camden Haven 5 matches to 1.

In stark contrast Matthew Delaney, leading divsion three with a very laid back style, guided his team to an even more impressive win. Other teams results were not to hand but will keep you advised of pennant progress during the season.

There is a strong view that the pennant shirts are as 'haute couture" as we could expect.

Coming up

Juniors return to golf on Saturday at 2.30 meet at pro shop. Let's hope we have a good roll up.

Joanne Richardson, who is currently running the pro shop, is keen to develop our up and coming young golfers.

We are pleased to say that we have gained a few parents who have taken up the game in support of their kids.

Next Saturday is a two man ambrose followed by a stableford and fourball on the following Saturdays. Next Sunday February 14 is the annual meeting at 10.30. Congratulations to those who have nominated for positions and it is to be hoped that golfers will show support for them.

Golf rules

Thank you to Paul Westley who brought to my attenton the following rule: Stroke play - rule 3-2. Failure to hole out. "If a competitor fails to hole out at any hole and does not correct his mistake before he makes a stroke on the next teeing ground, or in the case of the last hole of the round, before he leaves the putting green, he is disqualified."

In other words putts cannot be conceded in stroke rounds.

Last say

"Every shot pleases somebody."
