PROMOTER Peter Rich will consider running a bream competition early next winter.
This follows the success of the Flathead Frenzy conducted on the Manning River and based at Endeavour Park.
"People are asking me to also run a bream competition and at this stage it looks as though I will,'' Mr Rich said.
He said the Flathead Frenzy will again be held in November although he hasn't yet settled on a date for the proposed bream competition.
Despite overcast skies and occasional showers, the Flathead Frenzy attracted 65 boats - two more than last year. Some entrants travelled from as far as Queensland.
All proceeds from the day went to the Farquhar Inlet Management Committee.
"We haven't finalised everything yet but we'll raise around $2000,'' Mr Rich said yesterday.
A market day was added to the fishing program for the first time this year. Mr Rich said the inclement weather kept some stall holders away. However, he said those that did turn up reported a reasonable day's trading.
There were also displays from the Punching Monkey Gymnasium and the Taree Fire Brigade.
Mr Rich was also pleased with the turnout of spectators.
"I'd say there were a hundred there when the boats first took off,'' he said.
"We did a head count at the final presentation and we had more than 400 there.''
Mr Rich said boats headed to fishing spots from Harrington to the Bight Bridge at Wingham.
"Apparently the salinity level is quite high around Harrington. A number of the boats went there in the morning but headed up-stream for the afternoon session,'' he explained.
"Most of the fish were caught from the area between Croki and the Bight Bridge.''
Mr Rich said most copmpetitors reports catches of around 20 to 40 fish.
The competition was catch and release with the bigger fish on show at a holding tank before they were returned to the river.
Overall winner was Daniel Wright from Norm Kemp with Ben McLean third.
Alex Wadsworth caught the biggest fish of the day (3.2kg) and he also won the junior section from Mithcell Webster.
Jessica Steep won the women's division from Christine Newell.
In all 33 juniors weighed in 48 fish, 107 seniors weighed in 137.
