CENTRAL Lansdowne was the venue for Manning Cycle Club’s graded scratch races and points towards the Bourke’s Bicycles season championship.
A-grade raced for five laps of 13 kms to make a total distance of 65 kilometres. Despite mechanical problems, Dan Aldridge took out the race in a close sprint with Stephen Lewis. Lewis was second ahead of Josh Blick.
B-grade travelled four laps for 52 kilometres where Jason Parker and Don Worger set a fast pace in the first lap to unhitch Noel Mathiske, Bill Harris and Mal Weiley from the bunch. In a sprint finish, Bruce Anderson returned to form to win from Georgie Geeves and Greg Walmsley.
C-grade raced for 39 kilometres and included visiting rider Alex Hood from Sydney. Mark Geeves applied plenty of pressure throughout the race and backed it up with the win, beating Hood in the sprint with Judy Corbett in third place. Steve Richardson and Tanya Cross both had good rides in their first race in C-grade with Richardson finishing fifth and Cross eighth. Michael Gilbert was the unlucky rider, puncturing on the second lap and retiring.
D-grade had the largest field of the day with 14 starters. The race split into two main groups on the first of two laps with Russell Davis, Kelle Nicholson, Harold Greenhalgh, Aaron Bevitt-Budden and Alistair Currie breaking away on the climb to the turn. In the sprint finish, Russell Davis showed his sprinting prowess to beat Kelle Nicholson in second place with the irrepressible Harold Greenhalgh third. Matthew Blick was the only E-grader and raced with D-grade, but managed to complete the one lap.
