TWENTY-six Saltwater Boardriders Club members competed in 1 to 1.5 metre waves at Old Bar.
Conditions early were a little trying but some competitors shone in clean offshore waves. Early standouts were James Summerville and Warwick Samson who put some good scores together to progress in the event.
Winner of the grommet division was Mathew Wynter who surfed in the main event and in doing so pushed his father Rob in an unscheduled father-son heat. Ben Wynter’s A-grade appearance earned him sufficient points to take out the cadet division.
James Summerville surfed well to make the A-grade final and in doing so won the junior division. Michael Barbarie turned in another solid performance to claim the master’s division.
The girls division saw Sarah Evans take home the winner’s prize with a solid performance from Emily Crook and Kimberley Summerville.
Nick Brunton’s wave selection provided the edge to win the B-grade final edging out Sam Davis, Adam Gillies and Ben Green.
Oscar Scanes posted solid waves to win the A-grade final in trying conditions whipped up by a strong southerly change. The minor placings were taken out by Michael Barberie, Ben Wynter and James Summerville.
The next round of Saltwater Boardriders will be held on Sunday August 3.
