GROUP Three Rugby League executive members will meet with counterparts from the Northern Rivers Rugby League (NRRL) and Group Two in Sydney later this month to discuss possible changes to the boundaries on the North Coast.
Country Rugby League general manager Terry Quinn said he will set this meeting up before the next CRL management meeting scheduled for October 23.
This was determined at the Competition Conference held at Wingham Services Club to look at the future of Group Three in the immediate and long term future. Mr Quinn and regional manager for Groups Two, Three and Four, Scott Bone was among the guests. Former Country Rugby League president Warren Kimberley also attended.
All eight Group Three clubs along with Gloucester were represented.
Group president Wayne Bridge stressed to the conference that no decisions could be voted on. However, he wanted clubs to consider all proposals discussed before the group's annual meeting on November 15.
Clubs first discussed an application by the group made to the CRL in 2008 to change the boundaries of the three North Coast competitions.
This would extend Group Three's boundaries from Forster-Tuncurry to Kempsey and give the competition 10 clubs.
However, both Mr Quinn and Mr Bone said this wouldn't come into place next season as the NRRL which stretches from Grafton to the border, have voted on the format of their competition for 2010.
Mr Quinn stressed that Group Three clubs should be looking towards the longer term and not just at a quick fix.
Group Three vice president Kevin Hardy suggested the North Coast clubs should meet at a central location, possibly Coffs Harbour, to discuss any boundary changes.
However, it was agreed that this would result in a lot of people in one room where in all probability, nothing would be decided.
It was then that Mr Quinn suggested the officials from the North Coast competitions meet.
Group Three secretary Barrie Smith along with Mr Bridge both said at various times during the conference that it is up to Group Three to make this competition attractive for outside clubs to want to become involved in.
