SAXBY'S Stadium will reverberate with the sounds of basketballs bouncing and whistles blowing when the junior competitions fire up after the break for the autumn school holidays this afternoon.
Most schools start term two today with a student free development day and although players will not be at school they should make arrangements to get themselves to basketball for a 5.30pm start.
Members of the Taree Tornadoes under 14 representative boys team will be back on the training floor from 4pm as they gear up for the second round of the Northern NSW Junior Basketball League which will be played in Armidale over the weekend of May 14 and 15.
The 14 and 16 boys' rosters both started the 2011 representative campaign in Coffs Harbour last month and although they are yet to break through for their first win at this higher level of competition, the coaching staff is confident this can be achieved in Armidale next month.
Midnight basketball is coming to Saxby's Stadium with the first tournament to commence on Friday May 6 and run until June 24.
Volunteers are needed for jobs such as assistant bus drivers, catering assistants, scorers and team managers with an information and registration session set down on Tuesday May 3 at 5.30pm at GTCC Youth Services, 93 Victoria Street, Taree (opposite Fish, Fish, Fish) for anyone interested in helping out.
Information on competitions may be obtained from the website, www.taree.basketball.net.au or by calling Saxby's Stadium on 6551 7456.
