The Gymaroo All Stars from Taree travelled to Newcastle to compete in the AASCF Winterfest competition. The junior stunt squad placing first, the senior stunt squad placed second and the teen cheer squad also placed second in their respective divisions.
The Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation Winterfest competition is one the states major competitions this year and attracted over 70 teams from 21 cheerleading clubs from all over New South Wales with more than 1000 competitors and was held at the Newcastle Basketball stadium.
The Gymaroo All Stars are coached by Jasmine Kees at the Taree PCYC. In her first year of coaching the All Stars, Jasmine was overwhelmed with excitement and pride with the final outcome.
‘As we waited with anticipation at the presentation, I didn’t know what to expect. All our three teams had done their best but was it enough to beat the extraordinary teams we were up against? None of us were sure, but when we heard our name, all three times, we all cheered with excitement. I know one of my girls even started crying when we came second in our cheer division. I could hardly contain the pride I felt as a first time coach of the Gymaroo All Stars.’
Following this strong performance the team is preparing for another competition later on the year.
