Paul Berg will be Old Bar Football Club’s first grade premier league coach in 2010.
Berg has previous experience in the premier league with the Barbarians.
“In the past few years Paul has really broadened his experience as coach and would probably be considered the next best coach in the area now apart from Paul Ivers,’’ Old Bar FC president Noel Lanagan said.
“We’re really looking to forward having “Bergie” on board again after having already done various stints with us over the years. Paul is still going to be involved with programs developing youth teams for Football Mid North Coast and our club is keen to also support him with these endeavours. We’re also hoping that he will attract some of the fine young players in the area to the Barbarians.
“We’ve named Graham Brunton as our reserve grade coach. This will be Graham’s first official appointment at the senior coaching level. He was quite heavily involved with helping out (first grade coach) Mike Parsons and (reserve grade coach) Frank Micaleff in 2009, especially as the fitness trainer and had plenty of involvement during the year.
“Graham was also coach of the all conquering under 15 Barbarians side in 2009 that went through the season undefeated in winning the premiership as well as taking out the zone championship thumping Wauchope 4-1.
“As is always the case, we’ll loose at least eight or nine players for varying reasons, mostly to do with their education but we’re confident that we’ll also pick up several younger players. Dave Howarth is returning to the club after travelling overseas. Also with a bit of luck 2008 club captain Steve Atcheson may be available in 2010 after missing 2009 due to work commitments,’’ Mr Lanagan added.
Paul Ivers has taken on the role of club’s coaching coordinator and will work with junior team players as well as our appointed coaches of our junior teams in 2010 once they are finalised after registration days in February.
The Barbarians were semi-finalsts in the Football Mid North Coast Premier League first grade this year and grand finalists in reserve grade.
