Weather watch program attracts TV interest

30 Jun, 2009 08:55 AM
THE Weather Channel will broadcast live from Taree in August as part of a special event involving Manning Valley primary school students.

Local children have been involved with Max FM's popular weather watch program for more than 12 months, where students announce the weather live on air each morning at 8.35am.

The Weather Channel, part of the Austar pay TV service, has become involved with the initiative and the station will conduct a five-hour live broadcast from the Taree Racecourse on Friday, August 7. Max FM will also be broadcasting live.

The Weather Channel skydivers are scheduled to drop in on the crowd at the racecourse at 9am and there may be a celebrity or two taking the skydiving plunge.

Max FM announcer Craig "The Diceman" Huth said Greater Taree City mayor Paul Hogan has been approached to skydive and he has given a tentative yes.

Come along to meet The Weather Channel's Josh Holt who will present live at various times throughout the morning, talking all things weather in Taree.

There will also be plenty of activities including The Weather Channel's portable TV studio so you can have a go at being a weather presenter.

Josh will be there to show you how the experts do it and you will also receive a copy of your presentation to pass on to family and friends.

Austar For Schools will give every child who attends a prize pack and you will have the chance to win a brand new 32-inch LCD TV.

Schools throughout the Manning, Great Lakes and Gloucester areas have been invited and will have the opportunity to sign up to the Austar For Schools service which includes a subscription of 20 educational channels free of charge.

Be listening to Max FM in the lead-up to the event because the station will be running an Austar For Schools competition with some great prize packs up for grabs.

Austar will make a mini-documentary about the area during the event, which will be a great opportunity to promote the area to a wide audience.

"You can't buy that kind of publicity," Mr Huth said.
