THE National Party has admitted it will not fully fund the repair of Greater Taree City Council roads damaged by last year's floods.
Member for Lyne Rob Oakeshott said the revelation was made at a roads forum in Taree last week, where National Party MP Stephen Bromhead admitted the state government would fund only 50 to 75 per cent of Greater Taree City Council's road repair bill.
"The Manning's road network is collapsing. Motorists expect their local MP to fight for them, not happily deliver the state government's message that it won't fund the full cost of the council's natural disaster request," Mr Oakeshott said.
"More than 400 sites were damaged during the floods of June last year and yet the National Party not only seems to think paying half the bill is acceptable but an eight-month delay on funding approval also is OK.
"It leaves the community feeling pretty cynical about receiving proper state government assistance arising from last week's floods."
Mr Oakeshott has called on the NSW Premier, Mr Barry O'Farrell, to intervene.
"I ask Mr O'Farrell as Premier, and someone who knows the Manning, to step in and help clean up this mess," he said.
"For some reason, the National Party seems to be on a go-slow on this important matter.
"The funding needs to come through as soon as possible, and it must be the full $19 million - not $9 million, or $14 million.
"Last June's floods, the worst in 30 years, caused significant damage to the local road network and ratepayers shouldn't be left with the repair bill," Mr Oakeshott said.
