Library knit-in

MEMBERS of the Manning community wanting to make a difference to people in need whilst at the same time spending a morning being creative and enjoying a delicious morning tea should keep some space in their diaries free for the ABC "Knit In".

The ABC "Knit In" is a fantastic community event supporting the organisation Wrap With Love, which creates colourful wraps for communities in need around the world.

Over the years volunteers throughout Australia have produced more than 184,000 wraps that have been sent to people in more than 75 countries, including Australia.

Organisations throughout Australia will take part in the "Knit In" by either hosting 'knitting mornings' or being a drop off point for knitted squares and wraps.

Locally, Greater Taree City Libraries will host three ABC "Knit In" mornings on Friday July 24, July 31 and August 7 – all from 10.30am.

Members of the community can pop into Wingham, Harrington, Hallidays Point or Taree libraries on these dates and times, knit a square or two, enjoy free morning tea and join thousands of volunteers throughout Australia who will play an important role in keeping people throughout the world warm.

"Just one square provides one twenty-eighth of warmth, and 28 assembled squares creates one whole warm and protective wrap," Danielle Donnelly, community outreach officer with Greater Taree City Libraries, said.

In order to resource the "Knit In", Greater Taree City Libraries have set up donation boxes in its customer service points seeking the donation of eight-ply yarn and size 8 knitting needles (approximately. 50-55 stitches).

"As the event is a not-for-profit initiative we will be relying on the donation of yarn and knitting needles from the community to assist in making the ABC "Knit In" a success," said Ms Donnelly.

If you are interested in attending one of the ABC "Knit In" events at your library or would like to drop off knitted squares contact Danielle Donnelly on 6592 5390.
