NORTH Coast TAFE will have a strong presence at the 2012 Saltwater Freshwater Festival, held on the banks of the Manning River at Taree on Australia Day.
In its third year on the Mid North Coast, the Festival celebrates Aboriginal culture and achievements, and, as both a strategic partner of the Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance and a sponsor of the Festival, North Coast TAFE has joined in the celebrations
Director of Community Development and Aboriginal Engagement for North Coast TAFE, Heather McGregor, said the focus of TAFE's involvement is on language, art and design and student achievement.
"We will be showcasing our Aboriginal language courses, in particular our work in the Gathang language, with special workshops being run during the day," Ms McGregor said.
"Our outstanding Great Lakes Art and Design school will run Yili Design workshops and showcase the unique commercial work that has evolved from our partnerships with community and industry in the Great Lakes area."
North Coast TAFE will also be involved in the Generation One Yarn Tent, which will explore stories of achievement by young Aboriginal people as well as issues around employment, training and economic participation within Aboriginal communities.
