Manning Alliance, the peak body opposing CSG drilling in the Manning Valley, has announced the Barrington Gloucester Stroud Preservation Alliance has now been invited to give evidence at the NSW Upper House Inquiry into Coal Seam Gas to be held in Taree next Monday.
Announcing the reversal of an earlier decision, Manning Alliance chairman Peter Epov said he was pleased there has been a review and that Gloucester has now been invited to give evidence.
"Gloucester is the CSG hotspot in NSW. A great deal can be learnt from their experiences," Mr Epov said.
"Companies wanting to extract coal seam gas there have been given approval for 110 production wells with a further 300 on the way so their contribution to the debate is not only essential, but critical."
Manning Alliance has also been invited to give evidence to the inquiry, which will be held at Club Taree, starting at 11.30 and expected to continue into the early evening.
Manning Alliance has been given a half hour timeslot from 2.30 to 3pm to present its case, but has also been invited to an informal morning tea with the members of the NSW Upper House Committee, prior to the inquiry sitting.
Mr Epov hopes a controlled and peaceful community rally within the grounds of Club Taree in conjunction with the inquiry will demonstrate the level of concern from Mid North Coast residents to the threats of CSG mining.
The board of directors of Club Taree meets this morning to consider a Manning Alliance request to stage the community rally on the rooftop car park in the club grounds.
Manning Alliance is calling on all Manning Valley residents to join its 'Project Blue' and tie a blue ribbon to their front doors, their gates and their cars, and on Blue Day to wear something blue and to attend the CSG hearing at the club on Wingham Road, Taree.
"Our team has worked very hard to put together a concise 28 page submission to the NSW Legislative Council's Committee inquiring into CSG and we have worked even harder to get a place at the table," Mr Epov said.
The full list of invitees to be given an opportunity to give evidence has now been released on the committee's website.
"This is a very significant opportunity for our community to be represented at this very important hearing.
"We will now have to focus, and work hard to prepare for the hearing," Mr Epov said.
