GREATER Taree City Council has raised a total of $1800 for the Cancer Council's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, an increase of $600 on last year's fundraising effort.
Over five weeks council's four departments from the administration centre and the council depot have each taken a turn in hosting a morning tea.
Council staff have been busy in their kitchens at night preparing an array of sweet and savoury items to contribute.
Council's media and community relations officer, Val Schaefer, said for the past several years council staff have participated in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser with last year's effort raising almost $1200.
"This year we increased our fundraising amount by $600 which was a fantastic effort from each of our departments and the Council's Kolodong depot. "
The morning teas were hosted by council's corporate services, engineering, planning and building, community development and health departments and the depot.
Ms Schaefer said many council staff have been impacted by cancer either directly or indirectly.
"Earlier this year, sadly, council lost a valuable staff member to cancer, Larry Howell from our planning and building department," she said.
"With one in two people diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, many of us have been touched very closely by this disease.
"Raising funds to assist in research, prevention, education and support is very important for council's staff, their friends and relatives."
