Community first: Bromhead

19 Oct, 2011 08:11 AM
STATE member for Myall Lakes Steve Bromhead has labelled claims made by Federal Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott over the National Party’s position on coal seam gas as “factually wrong, misleading and mischievous.”

Mr Bromhead was responding to statements made by Mr Oakeshott in yesterday’s Manning River Times, where he called on the Nationals to come clean on its coal seam gas mining stance in the Manning and Gloucester valleys.

Mr Bromhead said the National Party went to the last election with a land use strategy in place.

“Since then we have strengthened it in consultation with the community,” he said, adding that this process was ongoing.

Mr Bromhead said he had already been quoted twice in the Manning River Times outlining his position on coal seam gas.

“For Mr Oakeshott to say I have not is implicitly wrong and he’s playing politics.”

Responding to a claim from Mr Oakeshott, Mr Bromhead said neither he or minister George Souris had any input into who is able to address the NSW Legislative Council Inquiry to be held in Taree on October 31.

“It is completely wrong to say we have. At no time have we denied a group access to the inquiry.”

Mr Bromhead said he had successfully made submissions to members of the upper house to ensure the inquiry would take place in Taree.

“I’ve seen four anti-coal seam gas groups either in Taree or in my electoral office.

“George and I and the National Party will always put our community and regional New South Wales first.

“It’s obvious from the statements made by Mr Oakeshott that he should look after his own federal issues rather than meddling in State issues.

“The NSW Nationals are determined to look after regional New South Wales and protect our community.”

It is no surprise to me that Mr Oakeshott is "grandstanding" on this issue. He recently claimed credit for "organising funding for Dubbo Base Hospital and 62 other regional hospitals". How will we ever get on without him? Hopefully, the answer to that question will become evident after the next election.

Much better answer than the Port Member. But left the question a little fogged. The community first was that the farming, mining or the voting community.

Oakeshott should butt out and tell the Lyne electorate where the all the promised funds for infrastructure from the May budget are. We are hearing that not a red cent has come into the coffers of local councils to do the promised work. Oakeshott in the words of one of the Labor greats is "shiver, looking for a spine to run up".

Mr Tony Ryan would you be kind enough to lend me the head of a pin so i can record the achievements Mr Oakeshott's Notional Party predecessors?

I'll use the pin head to record achievements for the electorate, but for big business and self interest, i dont know if there's a tablet large enough!! (on planet Earth that is). Mr Oakeshott is probably the best Federal Member we've ever had, and there are people out their that don't even have the intelligence to realise it.......how very sad.

Oh Republic!! Best Member for Lyne ever? Is that so? How come our "Best ever Member" totally discounted the expressed view of a clear majority of Lyne voters by supporting the Carbon Tax they do not want? In the days following he hung parliament a similar majority made it clear they did not want Mr Oakeshott to support the ALP. Not only has Mr Oakeshott made it clear he does not care what the majority think, he has been basking in the "limelight" ever since. Well, I hope he enjoys the glory, it will not last past the next election. That is, unless there is a collective loss of memory in Lyne.
