CALL for tenders brings the Bulahdelah Bypass a step closer, NSW Minister for Infrastructure and NSW Minister for Transport Anthony Albanese said.
Construction companies interested in building the bypass on the Pacific Highway have until November 25 to submit their best bid under the tender process being conducted by the NSW Road and Traffic Authority (RTA).
Construction is expected to start early next year.
"This project is what our Nation Building for Recovery strategy is all about. Directly and indirectly it will put 1520 Australians to work," Mr Albanese said.
"When finished, motorists will for the first time be able to drive on a four lane road all the way from the F3 Freeway to Port Macquarie, particularly now the duplication of the Pacific Highway between Karuah and Bulahdelah is completed.
"In partnership with the NSW Government we have committed $3.6 billion over six years to accelerate the duplication of the Pacific Highway."
NSW Transport Minister David Campbell said the new 8.6 kilometre four-lane bypass will replace the existing single carriageway running through the township of Bulahdelah.
"Once completed at the end of 2011, the new bypass will deliver safer driving conditions, shorter travel times and take up to 4000 trucks a day off the local streets of Bulahdelah," Mr Campbell said.
"The successful contractor will be responsible for building the bypass, including 12 bridges, drainage ways, noise and retaining walls, signposting and landscaping.
"Work on relocating power lines and other utilities is already underway."
