Aircraft raise mine survey concerns

01 Jun, 2011 12:00 AM
LANDOWNERS in the Comboyne area have become concerned by the sight of a helicopter flying over the area in recent days, with fears that it could be linked to mining surveying.

Several residents have reported seeing the aircraft flying overhead and it is also known to have landed on one occasion on a property at Boorganna.

A neighbour spoke to the crew and said he had difficulty obtaining a clear answer as to what they were doing, eventually being shown a university identification card and told they were researching the history of the region.

Other residents though have researched the helicopter and claim it represents a mining company which has been granted an exploration licence for minerals in the area of Comboyne, much of the Bulga Plateau, Boorganna and some of Upper Lansdowne.

The concerned residents encourage landholders to at least lock their gates to prevent any unauthorised trespassers from the ground.
